Strengthening Libraries, Librarians, and the Profession through the Fulbright Specialist Program

Many people are aware of semester- and year-long Fulbright Research Grants, but did you know there are shorter Fulbright opportunities available to librarians through the Fulbright Specialist Program? These experiences strengthen librarians and organizations abroad and domestically by using travel to foster professional relationships across cultures. This presentation by a current member of the Fulbright Specialist Roster will discuss the Fulbright Specialist Program, providing information about the application process and what it means to be admitted to the program. It will offer experience-based tips for applying for the roster, applying for opportunities once selected for the roster, and preparing for work abroad, if selected. Finally, the presentation will close with a summary of how she was asked to help strengthen India’s libraries during her time there and how this experience strengthened her professional muscles—and required her to also enhance her professional flexibility.
