Every Book Its Reader: Promoting Recreational Reading Among College Students

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In what ways can an academic library support recreational reading? How does fostering leisure reading align with the mission of an academic library? What are the challenges and rewards of working to promote recreational reading among college students? How do young adults' reading habits change as they move from high school to college and beyond? We will discuss these questions and more, and share strategies we have employed at our library to promote leisure reading, ranging from collection development to credit-bearing courses, displays, and events. In addition to discussing initiatives at our library, we'll encourage attendees to share experiences and initiatives from their own libraries. We hope attendees will come away from the session with practical strategies for promoting recreational reading among college students. The session will also appeal to librarians at any type of library who are interested in connecting readers with books.
